By tripling a window's insulating value, the Low-E coating saves, on average, one gallon of oil per square foot (40 liters per square meter) per year for 40 years. Based on a silver coating only 100 atoms thick, each silver atom saves gadzillion coal and oil atoms; these are the hardest working atoms in renewable energy. As detailed in Section 19, Low-E Windows have:

"Low-E is one of the 100 most important inventions in the last 100 years." (1)

"Without a doubt, Low-E coatings are the biggest development in the architectural glass industry during the last decade." (2)
